Commemorating the museum’s 40th anniversary, Foundations: Native American Art features works by foundational artists in the genre of Native American painting from 1925-1980, assembled from the collections of the California Academy of Sciences and the C.N. Gorman Museum.

Artists featured:  Narciso Platero Abeyta, Keats Begay, Woody Crumbo, Wilson Dewey, Adee Dodge, Allan Houser, Oscar Howe, Fred Kabotie, Charles Lee, Al Momaday, Waldo Mootzka, George Morrison, Gerald Nailor, Tonita Peña, Fritz Scholder, Quincy Tahoma, Lee Tsatoke, Andrew Tsinajinnie and Pablita Velarde.

The catalogue includes 24 works from the exhibition.  Foreword by Hulleah J. Tsinhnahjinnie, and introduction by Veronica Passalacqua.
