Memo / Artist Statement
Dora Tse-Pé (1939-2022 ) and her former husband, Tse-Pé Gonzales, collaborated on pottery for almost ten years until they parted ways. Their work is considered creative and innovative as they introduced the use of turquoise stones, sienna highlights, and finely done sgraffito designs on their pieces. Later she began carving her pottery in the style of Rose, adding her own twist and designs. Known for her expertise in polishing, Dora's pottery has a mirror gleam to it when completed. Some of her favorite designs are the Avanyu (Water Serpent) and bear, but she was ever experimenting with shapes and designs. (Kenneth Williams Jr., First American Art Magazine, No.37, 2023:92.)
