Biography
Tônia do Embu is part of the group of lovers of clay and rescuing the noble technique of terracotta has been his goal throughout his life and ahead of the coordination of the Sakai Memorial, museum and school that teaches young and adults the noble art of handling from clay until it becomes terracotta sculpture, a material made of clay baked in the oven, without being glazed, with a natural brownish orange color, sometimes reddish.

The ceramist was born in Embu, was a student of Mestre Sakai and today helps to preserve her memory and train new sculptors among students of all ages who attend the Sakai Memorial workshops, which, in addition to being a museum, is a free art school in ceramics, which in three years received around 25 thousand visitors and 300 students, mainly from schools in the city and region. Born in Japan, Sakai arrived at Embu in 1952, where he met and lived with Cássio M´Boy and an incredible group of artists who made the city known worldwide for their art.
