Biography
Richard Glazer Danay was born in 1942 and served in the Army Reserves from 1961–1967. He graduated from California State University, Northridge, in 1970, received his MA in 1972 from California State University, Chico, and an MFA in 1978 from the University of California, Davis. His life experiences range from ironworking New York City’s skyline to consulting for the National Endowment for the Humanities to chairing the American Indian Studies program at California State University at Long Beach. His art is derived from both pop and postmodernist art movements, and he employs a wry and ironic sense of humor in his interpretation of Indian themes and the status of women in modern American life. He is both a painter and a sculptor who can combine these media in the same work. Inspired by his ironworking family, Danay is best known for his hard hats. For Danay, art is fun, and he feels blessed that he can make a living playing in his studio.
