Peterson Gilmore was a medicine man and he included a set of index cards with a story about the Hero Twins. The Hero Twins are the key figures of the Shooting Chant.
"This Sandpainting Rug is called "The Two Hero Twins". Long time ago when the lives of the Dine-Navajo people were developing there were evil beings and great giants name (Yeii Tsoh) which the giants ate the people. The Great Creator and the Sun put the two twins to destroy all evil and giants from the earth. Both Twins hold the bow and arrow which were given to them. Both twins wear an armor that was given to them by the Creator. Inside the body of the twins are the markings of the sun, the father and which is the fire. Also they both wear a buckskin which as the corn - also known as the tree of life. Both of the twins hold a bow and arrow which was used to destroy the evil and Giants. This sandpainting can only be made by the medicine man or woman which they know the sacred song to it. In the middle is the symbol of the sun. In the middle of the sun is what we called the pollen boy. The feather around the sun is the sun ..?.
