Cape Dorset print #24.
Hessel: "Her themes range from evocative records of traditional life to emblematic images of animals. She has an ambivalent attitude towards art-making."
Leroux, 1994:27. "For Mayoreak, sculpture represents an occasional diversion from the drawings and prints that are her mainstay. Her work reflects her thoughts and life experiences. An historian at heart, Mayoreak is aware of the importance of documentation."
Biography
Mayoreak's mother was Sheouak Parr (1923-61), one of the first women to begin making drawings to support the experimental efforts at printmaking at Cape Dorset. Mayoreak is married to Qaqaq Ashoona (both are prominent Inuit artists) and she often draws birds." (Leroux, 1994:27)
