Biography
Joseph Clower (b 1937) was an important artist in the Southern California and Colorado Contemporary Art scenes in the 1970s and '80s. BFA from University of Georgia, 1963. MFA from University of Colorado in 1967. He became an art teacher there shortly after finishing school. His work, a painting from 1973, the same year as these 2, was included in the Whitney Biennial of 1975. He moved to Los Angeles in the late '70s where he stayed for the better part of the next decade. His work has been called part of the "Comic Book Paradigm" that was taking place in contemporary Art at that time. He moved back to Colorado and has been a very active and recognized artist since. He has had several gallery shows and museum exhibitions including the Harwood Museum of Art, University of New Mexico and The Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego, both in 2013. His work is also in the collection of the Art Institute of Chicago.
