Memo / Artist Statement
The Long Hair Kachina represents female messengers whose purpose is to bring rain to help the crops and flowers grow. The long hair on the kachina represents falling rain. All other artwork on this piece is unique to the Artist. The Long Hair is carved from cotton wood root and the artist will incorporate the natural bends of the wood to the finished Kachina. Fine lines and an array of patterns are then burned into the piece. Bright colors are then added to bring the piece to life.
Biography
Jerome was born in 1976 into the Kayonnie Totchnie clan of the Navajo Tribe. He learned to carve long hair kachinas from his brother at a young age.
