Memo / Artist Statement
"My work includes the personal experience which is directly responsible for my political statements. It also deals with cultural survival which is done within my community. The largest part of my work is directed to the non-Indian audience, to generate an awareness for concerns for the earth, and our future generation's survival. This communication also addresses indigenous rights as well as native woman's experience, which brings it back to the personal. The various concerns addressed in my work are interrelated sacred places of Native people are being destroyed by industry, recreational needs and by government. I try to create a visual experience for the viewer of communication between the Indian world and the non-Indian world, involving philosophy and the Indian worldview." (LaMarr in The Spirit of Native America, American Indian Contemporary Arts, San Francisco,1993:14)
