Heather Bryant’s lithographs use animal imagery to create sacred stories of how the creatures in real or imaginary worlds behave. An eclectic mixture of color, pattern, and repetitious ornamentation adorn Bryant’s mixed media drawings created with watercolor, gouache, ink, and Sharpie. Dots are scattered throughout the composition attempting to, and often, making contact. By connecting the dots across the compositions we are woven into a patterned existence, which alludes to the interconnected experiences that we all share. She illustrates encounters between beings faced with the choice of accepting or rejecting each other. Her goal is to promote a harmony between variant entities by having diverse characters with shared visual attributes to emphasize their common experience. The investigation of opposing forces is a focus of her research, which concentrates on the struggle between vice and virtue, being in this world but not of this world.
