Biography
"I am a Seneca, and a member of the Heron clan; the great blue heron. We inherit our clan from mother and also our nation from our mothers, I am Seneca because my mother is. My father, in my case, is also Seneca." (Jemison, in The Spirit of Native America, American Indian Contemporary Arts, San Francisco,1993:12)
His artwork has been shown nationally and internationally and his writings have been widely published. His mixed-media art ranges from political works that portray contemporary social commentary, to history collages, to works that reflect his relationship with the natural world. Jemison received the Americans for the Arts Award in 2023.
