Biography
During his long and varied career Rudans produced a large body of powerful and wide-ranging work including painting and sculpture. His most recent work reflected an optimism about life; colorful, optimistic, mysterious and even romantic images. Originally born in Latvia in 1933, Eriks Rudans came to Tucson in 1984. Rudans came to the United States in 1949 via a displaced persons camp in post-World War II Germany. He received a BA and MFA in printmaking from the University of Wisconsin at Madison and taught there for several years, as well as at St. Cloud University, St. Cloud, MN, and also at the prestigious Art Institute of Chicago. In 2003, Rudans was the recipient of the Arizona Arts Award given by the Community Foundation for Southern Arizona. Ericks Rudans: February 22, 1933 - April 29, 2007.
