Biography
After attending the Art Institute of Chicago in the 1960s, Burgevin moved around the country painting murals and participating in anti-war and anti-corporate activism.
Dan was one of the first artists to illustrate for Acorn Designs, a ecofriendly nature-inspired stationary business. Known for his enchanting interpretations of watery ecosystems, Dan’s blue whale and sea turtles are two of Acorn Designs´ more exotic images. Dan draws his inspiration from many years living and working in Hawaii and on boats as an activist for aquatic ecosystem justice.
Despite all of his traveling, Burgevin says that he has always considered the Ithaca area to be his home. A muralist by trade, Dan has spread his talent over walls in many cities like San Francisco, Hawaii, Chicago, New York and Ithaca. Of the 13 murals he has painted in Ithaca, Burgevin says that about three-quarters of them have been painted over. But, he says, working as a public artist has forced him to become less attached to his art.
