Memo / Artist Statement
I am a printmaker and draftsman by trade. Therefore, there are many routes in which I create images. Mostly my work can be separated into two categories. I create a personal mythology in which I explore my existence as an adopted child through pseudo histories and dystopian futures conjured up as I evaluate common life circumstances; and more subconscious approaches to sociopolitical commentary through retro futuristic war technologies. These bodies of work evolve in aesthetic as I problem solve through the most appropriate medium, whether it be sculpture, paint, or printmaking. The resolution is never apparent and only begs for another question posed. This journey is at the essence of my creative process.

I began studying printmaking as an undergraduate at Northern Illinois University under Michael Barnes, Ashley Nason, and with countless lessons from the graduate students enrolled at the time. After this I became an intern of printmaking at Chicago Printmakers Collaborative. To further my practice I was accepted under Melanie Yazzie and Matt Christie to study printmaking further at the University of Colorado Boulder where I graduated with a Masters in Fine Arts in 2015. I have taught at various universities within the front range of Colorado as an adjunct professor in foundational art practices and printmaking specific courses. Additionally, I collaborate with artists to create fine art prints at my personal studio.

Biography
Chris Blume was born in the Midwest of the United States and says that he holds the Midwest work ethic to the highest standard. Long days of physically demanding work is something that Blume admires about this place he calls home. He brings this work ethic into the artist studio when working in printmaking. Wearing a uniform of black clothing and ink stained black apron, he can be found hovering over the printing press most of the early morning and into the late evening. Blume is trained in printmaking academically and independently. Though Blume has printed for many established and emerging artists, his personal work can be found in private and special collections such as Artist Printmakers Research Collection Museum of Texas Tech University, Lubbock, TX, Gippsland Center for Art and Design, Monash Univeristy, Gippsland, Australia, CN Gorman Museum, University of California, Davis, California, St. Lawrence University Special Collections, Canton, New York.
