Charley E. Burns, A Clearness of Spirit

Charley Burns is a Yurok artist born in Eureka, CA in 1960. Many of Burn's paintings and drawings suggest visual dances and a balance of "the soft and intuitive side of human beings that balances what is harsh and inflexible." Many of the patterns in his works come from basketry and nature's geometry. Burns received his B.A. from Humboldt State University in 1984. His work has been exhibited across northern California. He is an active dancer and singer in his native community and participant in a variety of cultural activities. (Wasserman, A., Portfolio, American Indian Contemporary Arts, 1986:11-14).
