C.N. Gorman Museum FLASH! Series presents:

Strands of Distinction: Textile Selections
from the Dr. Ben Orlove Collections

Strands of Distinction explores the vast and diverse textiles collected by Dr. Ben Orlove, former UC Davis Professor in the Department of Environmental Science and Policy from 1974-2010. During his extensive anthropological research in Central and South America, Dr. Orlove amassed a sizeable collection of cultural artifacts including several exquisite examples of contemporary Andean textiles. Upon his retirement from the University of California, Dr. Orlove generously donated his collection to the C.N. Gorman Museum. This exhibit is the first time items from this collection have been on display for the public.

Strands of Distinction explores Dr. Orlove’s collection by focusing on specific functions of textiles, techniques for creating textiles, and design elements within textiles, all salient in the collection. By focusing on theses components the exhibit aims to express the vast diversity and sheer magnificence of this one of a kind collection.
